I have been able to use my pre-fellowship training
in neurosurgery; plastic surgery and ITU in the management of multiply
injured patients. All my posts since fellowship have given me wide
exposure to the surgical management of limb trauma.
I have experience of the treatment of pelvic trauma
by external fixation both in the acute phase and as definitive treatment
and also open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) when required.
I have managed patients with spinal column injury
both conservatively and operatively using a number of fixation modalities
including pedicle screw fixation systems. I have experience of the
surgical management of back pain, cervical and lumbar radicular
pain and cauda equina syndrome.
I have treated childrens fractures by conservative
means and operatively using Metaizeau wiring techniques, ORIF, and
external fixation by monolateral and circular frames.
In hand trauma I have used microsurgical techniques
for nerve and vessel repairs, carried out extensor and flexor tendon
repairs dealt with pneumatic injection injuries and used percutaneous
wiring techniques, ORIF using the AO minifragment set and scaphoid
internal fixation systems, and used various external fixation systems
for fracture treatment in the hand.
I have been trained in the treatment of long bone
fractures, including juxta-articular fractures, using conservative
measures, external fixation by circular frames, hybrid systems,
and monolateral frames, ORIF, minimally invasive percutaneous plate
osteosynthesis (MIPPO), transarticular retrograde plate osteosynthesis
(TARPO) and a number of intramedullary nailing systems as dictated
by the personality of the fracture.
I have been trained in primary and secondary amputation
surgery and prosthetic treatment. I have managed fractures of the
clavicle and calcaneum operatively when indicated.
I have had training in the use of various internal
and external fixation methods for salvage of complicated fixation
failures, treatment of non-union, and deformity correction.
