Ruptured Extensor Mechanism The extensor mechanism of the knee is made up of the ligament, joining the shinbone to the knee cap (ligamentum patella); the knee cap (patella); and the tendon joining the knee cap to the muscles on the front of the thigh (quadriceps tendon).
